White Rainbow
On the evening of August 4, 1914, the eve of Britain’s entry into World War I, the sun set on a blood-red sky. On the still morning of November 11, 1918, soon after the sun had risen, there was seen in the Midlands, England a white rainbow – a fitting omen of peace one would have thought – described the next day in the Birmingham Mail by the meteorological expert as follows:
“By a remarkable coincidence a white rainbow was visible on the western side of Birmingham at 8 o’clock on the morning of ‘Peace Day’. This is a very rare meteorological phenomenon.”
Interestingly, a double rainbow appeared over Buckingham Palace and other locations in London and Windsor on September 8, 2022, shortly before the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced to the public.
