Where is Our Hope

ByHolly Mills February 15, 2010January 15, 2016
Home / Current Writers / Where is Our Hope

“And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.” (Psa. 39:7)

Where is the hope for people in our world today? Many think it is in the UN, and many others think it is in our politicians or in education. There are also those who think it will be in a new world order. Throughout history putting our hope in these man made institutions has never been successful. It is as if we are such a stubborn people that we must prove all the other ways don’t work before we decide the true and only way for hope lies in faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Yes, some of these other ways may work for a time, but eventually our pride and arrogance are our downfall. The only way we can have hope in the future is in knowing that our God is in control and soon Jesus Christ will return to this earth to rule and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. “The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people and the strength of the children of Israel.” (Joel 3:16)

Today we have no confidence in our future. So much that we hear on the news is depressing and negative. Our economy is up and down like a yo-yo and we have no security in our jobs. Our Israel nations, who were once so vibrant and God fearing have lost their vision and consequently have lost their hope. We are now being attacked from all sides. There is a feeling of pessimism amongst the people. Every day seems to be a struggle with no end in sight. Who do we turn to? Who can help us? What is going to happen? Where is our hope? Modernism has created many false doctrines and these teachings have caused many doubts about the Bible. This consequently has brought a spiritual famine into our land. A quote from Professor C.A.L. Totten, M.A. says it all, “Most religious people are literally afraid to investigate the Bible….”. Without faith and knowledge of the Bible our hope diminishes. Knowledge of the Bible helps us to know God and this helps to build our faith and through faith we have hope. If we doubt the Bible and therefore do not read and study the scriptures our relationship with God is compromised and we lose hope.

Our faith is what gives us our hope. A faith and hope like our father Abraham, which was built on the promises of God. “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (Heb. 11:10) We should be living our lives in a state of expectation, the hope of the Kingdom. As Paul said in Rom. 8:24-25, “For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” We must look forward confidently with hope, knowing that our God is in control and that “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psa. 91:4)

In these days where there appears to be no hope we must turn our eyes toward heaven knowing that this is where our hope will come. Soon our Lord will come with a shout as the King to rule and reign over His Kingdom. We must be patient and wait for His coming.

“For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Holly Mills

Sometimes God brings about a need in an organization and then fills that need through a special individual. This happened to us 2002. Although never having written articles to that point, Holly Mills joined the only other correspondent at the time, Brooks Alden, and began writing a column using the tagline, “As I See It.” It wasn’t long before letters began flowing in telling us how her messages were so inspiring and heartfelt. Holly is one of the fortunate ones who have known of the Israel Truth message from youth and it has always sustained her through her life’s journey. She had a successful career in the airline industry but always found time for charitable pursuits. She hosted an Israel Truth Bible Study for three years and takes every opportunity to immerse herself in other studies of Scripture. Perhaps her greatest strength is that she writes what she feels so passionately.
