We Do Not Deserve This!

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God . . .” 1 John 3:1
The Bible makes it clear that God has a people that He has chosen to be His very own. They are His special treasure and the apple of His eye. He has set His love upon them above all the other peoples of the earth. That people is Israel.
“. . . Thou [Israel] art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.” Deuteronomy 7:6
Though much of the church world does not realize it, we — the Anglo-Saxon, Celtic, Germanic, Scandinavian and kindred people — are that people! History declares it, the Scriptures define it and reason demands it.
Our people have always been a God-fearing people. We have been Christian since the time of Christ. Our laws and customs are the laws and customs of Israel. In our history, we can see that we have been the heirs of the promises which God made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
And we have seen in the Royal family the fulfilment of God’s promises to King David regarding His seed and his throne. We are clearly the people of the Book, the chosen of God.
The Bible tells us that God chose us in Christ “. . . before the foundation of the world . . . in love, having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace . . . according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself . . .” (Ephesians 1:1-9) It was His choice, and He changes not. We are the sons and Daughters of God.
But when I look at us, I can’t help but wonder why! Why would He choose us? The very idea seems quite ridiculous! We are no prize! Yet He considers us a treasure!
It is absolutely amazing to me that we — poor, wretched, fallen, pitiful we — should be called the sons and daughters of God! We do not deserve this! Yet God, in His sovereign Will, has chosen us to be His very own! Amazing but true!
“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” 1 John 3:2
Just think of that! This should move each and every one of us to humility and cause us all to have grateful hearts towards God and inspire us to live lives that are well pleasing unto Him. We are the sons and daughters of God, so let’s act like it!
Amen! Help us Lord so to do!
