Reversing Diabetes

Diabetes, like all other degenerative diseases, is on the rise in our nations. It is reported to be the #6 disease killer in Canada and the United States. Some reports state the number of people with diabetes has tripled in the last decade. Every November 14th, World Diabetes Day is held to create awareness to this alarming increase in numbers. According to the American Diabetes Association, “Diabetes is a chronic disease that has no cure”.

There are two types of diabetes; Type 1 is the least common of the two. Type 1 is when the pancreas does not produce any insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body control the level of glucose (sugar) in your blood. Without insulin, glucose builds up in your blood instead of being used for energy. If you are a Type I diabetic, your body eliminates the cells that create insulin in your pancreas. Whenever your own body eliminates its own cells, you have what is known as an autoimmune disorder.

Type 2 diabetics don’t produce enough insulin, or their body isn’t able to effectively use it. This condition referred to as insulin resistance.

Dr. Rosedale developed the appropriate acronym “D.I.E.”, Doctor Induced Exacerbation, to illustrate what’s happening in conventional diabetic treatment. “Most doctors make diabetes worse and accelerate the death process. I’ve explained the mechanics of insulin resistance and the role of leptin and insulin before, but let’s review it again”.

Leptin is a hormone produced in your fat cells. One of leptin’s primary roles is regulating your appetite and body weight. It tells your brain when to eat, how much to eat, and most importantly, when to stop eating. And leptin tells your brain what to do with the energy it has. Leptin is largely responsible for the accuracy of insulin signaling and whether or not you become insulin resistant.

Insulin: Sugars and grains raise your blood sugar. When this happens, insulin is released to direct the extra energy into storage. A small amount is stored as a starch called glycogen, but the majority is stored as your main energy supply—fat. Insulin’s major role is not to lower your blood sugar, but rather to store the extra energy for future times of need. Insulin’s effect of lowering your blood sugar is merely a “side effect” of this energy storage process.

Insulin resistance: Insulin resistance occurs when your body becomes resistant to the hormone insulin. Any time a cell is exposed to insulin it is going to become more insulin resistant. If you eat too many sugars and grains, it provokes insulin surges and every time you provoke an insulin surge it exposes your body to more insulin. Just like walking in a dark room where it is difficult to see, after a while your vision accommodates, your pupils dilate and you can see much better. Similarly, when your body is exposed to excess insulin soon it no longer responds to it properly and becomes insulin resistant.

Lee Euler, editor of the Cancer Defeated! Newsletter, states, “…. I’ve studied the matter, I know conventional medicine is worthless when it comes to late-stage cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. It’s somewhat more successful with some early-stage cancers. When it comes to diabetes, they merely buy you time.

It is said there are three main reasons for all sickness: (1)nutrition (2) deficiency and (3)toxicity … And this certainly holds true to diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is a fully preventable, reversible condition that arises from faulty leptin signaling and insulin resistance. The only known way to re-establish proper leptin and insulin signaling is through proper diet and exercise. There is no drug that can accomplish this!

With type 2 diabetes, at least a good portion of insulin is still in the bloodstream. However, being in the bloodstream is not good enough, it needs to be used. Insulin is used in every cell of your body. In a healthy body, insulin receptors pick up the insulin and deliver it to each cell. However, in diabetics these receptors are blocked. This blockage is caused by cholesterol. This harmful cholesterol comes from animal products you eat, such as meat, fish, chicken, eggs and dairy products. Egg yolk is almost completely cholesterol. If you don’t eat animal products, you’re not getting this harmful cholesterol.

Most of us have been deceived by today’s nutritional guidelines into believing that dairy is a healthy part of a balanced diet. Statements like “diets rich in milk and dairy products help build and maintain bone mass throughout the lifecycle and may reduce the risk of osteoporosis” have been drilled into us since early childhood days. High quality plant-based foods, such as broccoli, kale and collard greens provide much more easily absorbable calcium than dairy. These should be used in place of dairy as healthy sources of calcium. Make your own nut milks from all healthy ingredients. Almond milk tastes great and is easy to make. If you must eat/drink dairy products, be sure you are buying from organic, grass-fed farms.

Therefore the best diet for reversing Type 2 diabetes consists of raw fruits and vegetables, nuts, sprouts and herbs. This should account for 80% of your diet. Foods known to lower your cholesterol include chlorella, avocado, flaxseed, almonds, walnuts, blue berries and coconut oil. Studies have also shown that daily intakes of apple cider vinegar can lower your cholesterol. Always be sure your apple cider vinegar reads “with Mother” on the label. This vinegar is a twice-fermented product in which the sugars are broken down to first produce a cider and secondly a vinegar.

The Gerson Therapy is one of the better known all-natural treatments for cancer. However, Dr. Gerson always insisted his was not a specific therapy but a whole-body metabolic therapy. In fact, he began the diet and juicing program for himself, to cure his own severe migraine headaches. The two key components to his therapy are juicing raw fruits and vegetables, several times a day if possible, and coffee enemas. His belief was what comes out is just as important as what goes in. Many former diabetic sufferers owe their renewed health to this type of diet.

Certainly the biggest step to turning your diet around is to avoid all sugars and white flour. And don’t turn to artificial sweeteners as an alternative. Aspartame, Equal, etc. are nothing but poisonous chemicals that should never have been allowed on the market. It has been proven that whenever sugar is introduced to a nation, diabetes is soon to follow. The average American/Canadian consumes 150 pounds of sugar per year. When you consider sugar is possibly the worst food we can be putting in our bodies, it is no wonder that diabetes and all degenerative diseases are on the increase, and at a very fast pace.

It is estimated that physical inactivity is the root cause of diabetes for many people, as many as 27%. For many who are diabetic, overweight or obese, simply walking for thirty minutes a day helps to manage weight and maintain healthy blood sugar levels by suppressing appetite and creating the kind of calorie deficit that results in weight loss. And exercise is one of the most effective ways to regain insulin sensitivity and reverse insulin resistance.

Get outside and enjoy the sunshine, if possible. We were never meant to be stuck indoors 24 hours a day. Otherwise supplement your body with a daily dose of vitamin D3.

If you are a diabetic, or know somebody that is, I highly recommend you watch a movie called Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days. It is a full-length documentary film that chronicles six Americans with “incurable” diabetes. The movie shows how proper diet and exercise allowed these individuals to get off of insulin and most/all of their medication. If you have access to the Internet, you can watch the entire movie at Youtube.com. Otherwise feel free to write to me and I can help you order it.
