Our Hope and Trust in the Lord

“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1Tim. 1:1-2).

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” (Psa. 9:9-10).

2011-11-millsWe have such hope when we, who know Jesus Christ, put our trust in Him. He is a place of safety in a troubled world. Actually He is the only place that is safe. He is our solid Rock. When we know this and believe it the cares of the world do not seem quite so daunting because we know where we can put our trust.

Unfortunately we so often look everywhere but to the true source of peace. Our real goal should be to put our faith and trust in God. This gives us hope. We must strive to know the mind of God and His purposes for this earth. Trust comes from faith, which we gain by studying the Word of God. This allows us to know God, to know His character, and to see His ultimate plan. Through this we build trust and this gives us hope. Hope is so lacking in the world today, as we do not know who to trust anymore. When you can’t trust in anything you feel that there is no hope for the future.

“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Prov. 3:1-6). This is our hope. “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, by grace ye are saved; And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Eph. 2: 4-10)

Our goal is to trust God and be obedient to His will and do good works. Without this hope in Jesus Christ we are dead. It is through Christ that we live. We live when we walk with the Lord not with this world. We can trust Him and know that through Him and the promises of His Word we are safe.

We must continually search the scriptures to understand what God is doing and how He is speaking to us. So often when we feel things are going badly we turn away from God and this is the exact opposite of what we should do. We should draw closer to Him. When we study God’s Word we find that He is faithful and just and that we can trust Him to see us through these difficult times. “The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.” (Lam. 3:25).

…Without this hope in Jesus Christ we are dead…

God has not forgotten His people, Israel, although we appear to have forgotten Him. Our Israel nations have fallen into such a terrible state that it appears that only the direct intervention by our God can save us. We have become so brainwashed by what we have been taught over the last 50 years or so that we have lost the ability to see and think clearly. We have become apathetic. It is only now that things are becoming very stressful and the future so unclear that we have begun to pay any attention to what is happening. We are now in a state of confusion and don’t know what to do. Our wonderful Lord knows all this and we must put our trust in Him to bring us out of our confusion and back to Him. He has given us His assurance on this. He will not forget us! “Can a woman forget her suckling child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” (Isa. 49:15). Our hope is trusting in the Lord.

“For thou art my hope, O Lord GOD: thou art my trust from my youth.” (Psa. 71:5).

How Great a Love

Holly Mills

Sometimes God brings about a need in an organization and then fills that need through a special individual. This happened to us 2002. Although never having written articles to that point, Holly Mills joined the only other correspondent at the time, Brooks Alden, and began writing a column using the tagline, “As I See It.” It wasn’t long before letters began flowing in telling us how her messages were so inspiring and heartfelt. Holly is one of the fortunate ones who have known of the Israel Truth message from youth and it has always sustained her through her life’s journey. She had a successful career in the airline industry but always found time for charitable pursuits. She hosted an Israel Truth Bible Study for three years and takes every opportunity to immerse herself in other studies of Scripture. Perhaps her greatest strength is that she writes what she feels so passionately.
