Heralds Of Our Lord
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ…” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
As Christians, we are ambassadors and heralds of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As ambassadors of our Lord, we represent Him to others. What they see in us will be taken as being representative of Christ and Christianity. This is truly a weighty responsibility that we must not take lightly, but seriously.
As heralds of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, we are His messengers, to deliver His Word to His people. This is also a weighty responsibility which we must take seriously. To be a true and faithful herald of our Lord, we must be ever faithful to stay in the Word of God so that we know what that Word is. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” Psalms 1:1-2
Staying in the Word is key, for the Word of God is our spiritual food. It is our strength. Through His Word we have light and life, and clear direction in holiness.
BELIEVE
As heralds of our Lord we must not only read and know the Word of God, we must believe what we read. True, heartfelt belief in His Word is vital. That Living Word must get past our intellect and reach down to our heart. Those seventeen inches between our mind and our heart make a world of difference in our lives, our testimony, and in our success as heralds of our Lord Jesus Christ. “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalms 27:13
To believe, we must have faith, which is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-10). May God be pleased to give unto each of us that measure of faith (Romans 12:3) with which we may believe upon Him and trust His Word.
TEACH
As faith rises up in our heart, and we believe the Word of God, we must then be faithful to teach what we believe. Do the work of an evangelist (2 Timothy 4:1-5). Declare the Gospel of the Kingdom to His people.
Spread the Word. Sow the precious, life changing seed of the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit of God will do that which He does best. “Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.” Isaiah 58:1
PRACTICE
Those who teach and preach the Word must also of necessity be very sure that they are faithful to practice what they preach. It is counter productive to do otherwise. How many of Christ’s heralds have made a shipwreck of their faith and testimony? May we never behave in such a way as to give occasion for such sorrowful calamity.
Live your faith! Be that shining example of Christian character and deportment that Christ desires us to be (Ephesians 5:1-21)! As the Scottish poet Horatius Bonar wrote . . . Be what thou seemest; live thy creed;
Hold up to earth the torch divine;
Be what thou prayest to be made;
Let the great Master’s steps be thine.
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being . . .” Acts 17:28
In conclusion, we are ambassadors and heralds of our Lord. As such, let us be faithful to the task before us, both in word and deed, for in so doing there is great reward.
