Everything Is Going Wrong Just Right
I was walking my dog the other day and these words came to me. I did not remember where I had heard them before but after talking with my brother, he mentioned that Alan Campbell would often say this after a talk that may have been rather unsettling. He said, “but in the end the things that were going wrong were leading to everything going the way it should”. If you think about it that is true and part of steering us in the direction of God’s ultimate plan. Here are ominous words for these evil people that are creating a world that is totally apart from God and one that is hard to even recognize from only a few years ago. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of theLordof hosts, and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel.” (Isa. 5:20-24)
God has allowed them this time of power because we have abandoned our Lord and Saviour and followed our own ways instead. Our own pride and arrogance has turned us away from God and these evil ones have used our resulting weakness to rule over us. Psalm 2:1-3 says, “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against theLord, and against his anointed, saying,Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.” This is the world today, but God laughs, “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision”. (Psa. 2:4) Their time is limited and rapidly approaching the end.
We are living in the time of the apostasy spoken of in 2Timothy and we have allowed ourselves to be seduced by these evil men, “But evil men and seducers [imposters] shall wax [grow] worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” (2Tim 3:13). Their words speak of what is in their hearts and where their treasures are. “A good man out of the goodtreasurehis heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the eviltreasurehis heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” (Luke 6:45) These evil ones don’t realize that their own pride and arrogance will be their downfall.
They are deceitful and lust after power and control. Their own pride will defeat them. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pridegoeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” It is only a matter of time before God intervenes in the affairs of men. It is only through the power of the cross and the Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ that the thoughts of the world can be overturned. God’s grace changes the world. This is what will change the wrong to right. Our hope is in the return of Jesus Christ. Everything will soon be right! Two good quotes from C.S. Lewis that I think you will like.
1. Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
2. “When the whole world is running towards a cliff, he who is running in the opposite direction appears to have lost his mind.”
Though things seem ominous right now God is working out His plan for His people and by God’s grace and our faith in Him we will get through it all. We will see things put right. “And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32)
