Crossing the Bar
We lost some pretty wonderful friends and readers since our last remembrance of January 2010. Yet, the happy thing is that they closed their lives knowing the Lord Jesus Christ would soon return to establish His Kingdom. I doubt they would want us to be sad, but instead take solace that we shall be altogether in the Kingdom. To honour these loved ones this year, we have again reached back to the 1800’s to Lord Tennyson’s tribute to the departed.
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea.
But such a tide as moving seems asleep
Too full for sound or foam
When that which drew from the boundless deep
Turns again home.
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell
When I embark.
For though from our bourne of time and place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar.
