The Scripture Cannot Be Broken
“And the scripture cannot be broken.”
John 10:35
Life can sometimes be challenging to say the least. Circumstances can arise that we have no control over, and they can make us unsure, and can shake our faith.
In this world where so little can be sure, what a blessing it is to know that there is something that is eternal and unchanging: something that we can always count on: something that will never fail. It is the Word of Almighty God.
Our text is one of the most reassuring declarations in the entirety of the Bible.
Jesus makes this statement in the context of defending His divine Sonship, emphasizing the absolute truth, authority, and unwavering nature of the Holy Scriptures, but these words can be added to any passage of Scripture, any promise of God, and it will neither change nor dilute the passage in any way, but will rather serve to strengthen and support it.
We offer the following passages in example . . .
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end: and the Scripture cannot be broken! — Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world: and the Scripture cannot be broken!
When other helpers fail, the Word of God remains forever constant and true. It is stronger than granite and sharper than any two-edged sword. It is older than time, yet fresh as the morning dew. It is more reliable than the air that we breathe. It will never waver, and will never pass away. Everything else in this life is constantly changing, and slowly passing away—but not the Word of God. It was here before there was anything, and brought everything into being—and it will be here when everything around you is long gone. It is eternal, and will always accomplish that which God intends.
“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever — For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 119:89
Amen, and Amen!
