They Were All In One Accord

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.”
Acts 2:1
Jesus had said to His disciples, “Ye shall have power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you,” and then after His Resurrection, the gift of the Holy Ghost came upon them, and they were endued with power.
While there are many directions we could go with this Bible verse, all of which are equally important and valid, the point that I want to emphasize is the fact that they were all with one accord in one place. They had singleness of mind, singleness of focus, singleness of spirit. They were unified . . . and with that unity there was power!
Today, God’s people are not unified as we should be. There are divisions among us, and there is strife. As a result, we lack the power that we should have.
God wants His people to be of one mind, one heart, one vision. “Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus . . . he humbled himself . . .” Philippians 2:2-8
Another translation reads, “. . . don’t merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Oh! If God’s people would only do this! But this is not generally the case. Many churches today are weak and dying because the enemy is doing a great job dividing God’s people and, sadly, many of God’s people are complicit. They might agree that unity is good… but only if you think like them and do things the way they like.
People of God, this should not be!
We are well aware that the fundamentals of the faith must never be compromised, but it is not the fundamentals of the faith that God’s people divide over, but peripheral issues. Hymns or choruses? Flat earth or round? Solar or Lunar? Local flood or worldwide? Saturday or Sunday? What?! You say His Name how?! On and on and on it goes.
Great things happen when God’s people are all together in one accord! That is why the enemy wants so badly to divide us. He knows there is strength in unity. When we are fragmented, we become weak. Don’t let it happen. Let us refrain from contention among ourselves and seek after unity and fellowship.
If you haven’t been to church in a while, go this weekend! Leave that critical spirit at the door and let the enemy know you have come to worship God, not find fault! Enter His gates with Thanksgiving in your heart, and be GLAD! “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1
