The Cavalry
Lev 26:8
“Five of you shall chase a hundred and one hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight, and your enemies shall fall by the sword.”
When I was a little girl, Westerns were the popular TV programmes of the day, and it was a regular occurrence, that when the chips were down and the Indians were surrounding the wagoners, suddenly the cavalry came charging over the hill – to the rescue!
Recently, reading a children’s story book, (for light entertainment) I came across a similar ‘cavalry’. This being of a more spiritual type. The book, by Michael Morpurgo is entitled The Ghost of Grania O’Malley. It concerns a little girl named Jessie, who with her cousin, met up with the ghost of a lady pirate (and her ghostly crew), on the small island where they lived. The story involved a greedy islander who wanted to allow developers to destroy their mountain. The future looked very bleak when the bulldozers arrived, and the villagers seemingly helpless before them. But to the rescue appeared the ghostly pirates and after causing the bulldozers to topple into the sea, the workmen were duly frightened away.
All of this put me in mind of events from the 1st World War concerning the White Cavalry and the Angels of Mons.
With current happenings in the world – Iran, Lebanon, Ukraine etc – and with the threat of escalation, it occurred to me that we need to consider where our help should come from if we found ourselves in dire need. Of course it could all calm down – President Trump may win his war, and peace reign once more – that is our hope. However our leaders seem to have been on a war footing for a while now, it could take just a small mistake to escalate things into a full blown 3rd World War.
In the Arthurian stories, at the start of the final battle, both Arthur and Mordred’s troops were gathered, and an attempt at a deal or truce was made. Arthur’s men were told to hold their peace unless a sword was raised. That was the sign to attack! At the meeting suddenly a snake appeared, and someone raised their sword to slay it! So the battle commenced ending in the death of both Arthur and Mordred (and isn’t it interesting it was a ‘snake’ that caused the start of the battle…!)
President Trump seems to be sending out conflicting messages regarding his plans concerning Iran, his ploy it seems to be keep ‘em guessing…. both the Iranians and the media. The Israeli’s on the other hand, seem unafraid to state their objectives, and concerning Lebanon, this looks pretty much like a re-run of Gaza. Their aim to destroy Hezbollah – and anyone else who gets in the way. It is difficult to surmise exactly what will happen – our late dear friend Alan Campbell always told us to watch Turkey whom he called ‘the wild card’. Dear Alan what would you be saying now – and likewise Michael Clark – how we miss their input! Alas, the Lord wishes those of us left to come to our own conclusions – being mindful of course that He knows all things.
Here in the UK our incumbent Prime Minister, Mr Starmer has gone out of his way to insult President Trump and refused to give even any moral support. But let’s be quite clear, whether you support Donald Trump or not, the Iranian regime is one of evil wickedness and has needed to be dealt with for some time. Starmer sides with his Davos/EU/Globalist friends, all who have allowed this regime to continue unchecked for years.
Whilst Donald Trump seems confident he will win this war and that the US is safe from attack, all well and good, and we hope he is correct. Here in the UK our military, ex-military and various politicians tell us (and all the world) that if attacked we could not defend ourselves (thanks a bunch guys…).
So from where will our help come? Despite saying he wouldn’t help us I suspect that Donald would – hopefully! However if we were in dire straits and our very existence as a people threatened then we will have to do as our grandparents and great grandparents did in the first 2 World Wars – and pray to Our Father in Heaven for His help.
During the time of Covid, the Church of England leaders, when asked about a day of prayer for the situation didn’t think it was a good idea because if nothing positive happened it wouldn’t look good on their part….! Just shows how much faith they had!
But the Lord is always there to hear our prayers – even if we cannot see Him or His angels. In the story I mentioned, the little girl, Jessie is told by Grania O’Malley; “…And besides, to see me, you’ve got to want to see me; and what’s more I’ve got to want you to see me. When they want to see me, and I want them to see me, then they’ll see me; but only then…”
This put me in mind of Elisha and his servant in 2 Kings 6 v 15-18
“And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! How shall we do? And he answered, fear not; for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray Thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw ; and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around about Elisha. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray Thee, with blindness. And He smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha” (v 15-18).
Aside from the White Cavalry in the first World War, there is another event of deliverance that is worth a mention, and I have to thank dear friend and fellow correspondent Holly Mills for the link. This concerns The Battle of Blood River. This historical event took place in December 1838 and concerned white Afrikaners who were under dire threat from a host of warring Zulus. A small group of them were remaining, and truly all hope seemed lost. But they were an Israelite Christian people who believed in the Lord God and His Son Jesus Christ. So they knelt in prayer on the 9th to the 16th December (7 days) to pray. They prayed to the Lord for His protection and deliverance. Apart from themselves there were also their cattle, and because their hearts were true and their belief strong, the Lord heard their prayers and delivered them – and their cattle. Though heavily outnumbered, they were given the victory and according to historical record there were surviving zulus of that day of battle who testified to witnessing an army of white soldiers firing from a white cloud that hovered over the laager all day – the Shekinah Cloud of Glory with the Host of Heaven…
“Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the Angel of the Lord chase them…” (Ps. 35 v 5)
Perhaps it will take another war to bring God’s people to their senses – and back to Him? There are many good people around but they have lost their way and do not know the Lord. But if we do find ourselves in the middle of another war then we will have to trust the Lord and believe that He will deliver us – And we must ASK Him to do so. Then we can expect a wonderful deliverance!
In these days of great uncertainty with wars and rumours of wars, we do hope for peace, but keep in mind that True Peace will only come with and through Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.
