Whole Earth Is Tired
Isa. 24:4-5
The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish. The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
The whole earth just feels tired to me these days. It seems everyone is tired and this word is continually being used to describe how people are feeling. I believe it is not only how people are feeling but how the earth is feeling as well. Everything feels and looks tired. In Isa. 24 verse 4 it says the world and the people languish and the definition of languish is “lose or lack vitality; grow weak”, in other words they are tired. This is because of our sin. It not only affects us but the earth as well. Our disobedience to God has caused the wickedness that is consuming the whole world and is ultimately leading to our judgment and the whole earth will be affected.
It just feels like everything that is happening in our Israel lands right now is futile. Nothing is getting accomplished. We have the same tired promises by those who are in power but they go nowhere and things continue to get worse and worse. Romans 8 verses 22-23 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.” Not only is the earth groaning but also those of us who recognize how far we have fallen and our spirit cries out for the redemption of our body. God knows our pain and sorrow and He knows that we are tired of all the awful things that are happening in our countries but He wants us to have patience and wait on His timing that through His grace the world will be restored and His Kingdom come.
It is God’s creation and He is the only one that can fix it. Our nations are all so divided and we know that united we stand but divided we fall and we have fallen because we have abandoned our covenant with God and followed other gods. We have let our leaders lead us astray and we have consequently forgotten who we are and we have gone our own way rather than God’s way. We must humble ourselves, and repent, and turn away from our wicked ways and ask God to help us and heal our lands.
Isaiah 40 talks about how to receive comfort through trusting in the Lord and recognizing who He is and His majesty. Verses 21 to 23 say, “Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: That bringeth {reduces} the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity {useless}”. This is what He is doing today. He is revealing to us who these useless leaders are and will eventually destroy all their power. It appears more and more that people are starting to see how bad the conditions of our countries really are. Confusion is everywhere and most people don’t know what to do. Hopefully this is a time when many will start looking for help from the Lord rather than from the world. Things will only continue to get worse under this worldly system and unless we turn to the Lord we are in deep trouble. He is our only hope.
Jesus gave us this promise, in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” There is a lovely hymn you can find on YouTube called I Cast All My Cares Upon You and I am sharing these words from the hymn here, “Lord I cast all my cares upon You; I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet; Anytime I don’t know what to do,I will cast all my cares upon You.” In this tired world there is always rest and hope in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
