Two Days And Two Lives
This year the eyes of the western world have been on the United States to see what direction the country would go in. Many people have been shocked by the policies being carried out. The tariffs are a big concern to many people. As a Canadian I am wondering how the tariffs on our country will affect each of us. The talk of Canada becoming the fifty-first state is an exaggeration, and I believe it does not agree with the plans of God. The relationship of the average Canadian with the United States can be illustrated by the following paragraphs.
This is the description of two days in the life of a Canadian couple living in the prairies of western Canada (where I live). A man (call him Bill) goes to work in the morning. He works for an oil company. The oil business is big in western Canada. In some parts of western Canada people joke about working for an oil company. They say, “If you don’t work for an oil company you don’t work.” The oil is sent by pipelines to the United States. Canada sells more oil to the United States than Saudi Arabia or any Middle East country, in fact more than all other countries combined. Bill works for an American oil company because many oil companies operating in Canada are American. At lunchtime Bill is close to a town, so he stops in at a McDonalds restaurant for a quick bite. At the end of his workday, he heads home in his Ford truck. His wife (call her Cindy) already has supper ready and has made a delicious salad with vegetables shipped into Canada from California. After supper Bill needs to buy some things so he drives to the Walmart store. Years ago, there used to be Canadian department stores, like Zellers, Woodwards, and Eatons, but they went out of business when Walmart moved into Canada. Bill can’t get all the hardware he needs at Walmart, so he goes over to Home Depot. While he is shopping, Cindy turns on the television. All cable television comes from the United States. She watches a Christian program produced in the U.S.A. with an American evangelist. When Bill gets home, they turn on the news. Most news channels in Canada are American so they watch American news to find out if anything is happening in the U.S.A. that will affect the oil industry. Then they go to bed.
The next day they rise, have breakfast, and go to their jobs. It is Friday, so after their workday they decide to have supper in a restaurant. They go to a restaurant that is part of an American chain of restaurants. After supper they go to watch a movie in a theatre. The movie is produced and directed in the U.S.A. and the lead actor is American. Then they head home and watch the news again, this time on a Canadian news channel, but the main story is about Canada-U.S. relations. Bill and Cindy are probably aware that their lives are dominated by American corporations. They just lived two days when nearly everything they were involved with was influenced by Americans. Donald Trump does not need to take over Canada. Canada is already Americanized!
However, in the history of Canada there was the British influence which kept Canada separate from the United States. With the decline in British influence Canada has become more American in attitude, but Canadians still have a patriotic pride in their country. Canada is part of the British Commonwealth, which is a weak continuation of the British Empire, which was established by God. Donald Trump cannot undo the Commonwealth.
The British Empire was the largest empire in the history of the world. It made up a quarter of the world, and the sun never set on it. It spread the Gospel throughout the world. It lasted about 250 years but was brought down by two World Wars. After that America took over and became an economic empire. It continued to spread the Gospel by radio, television, and internet. Now America is in decline and is soon to be replaced by a greater empire, not the BRICS nations, but the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. That is my belief because I believe God has a greater plan for his Israel people (the Anglo Saxon and kindred people).
We are not to be taken over by people of alien religions or Communism. We belong to our King, Jesus Christ.
