The Times Are Changing
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” (Ecc. 3:1-8)
The above verses from Ecclesiastes in the King James Bible were used in a song called “To Everything There Is A Season”, written by Pete Seeger in 1959 and made popular worldwide by The Byrds in 1965. You could write good songs like that using Bible verses in those days! This song and another one by Bob Dylan called “The Times They Are A Changing”, which he wrote just before the assassination of JFK in 1963, keep coming to my mind and I find myself thinking of them when I am walking my dog. It seems to me that we are in a season of great change and unrest and for the most part people are becoming uncertain as to what the future holds for them. There was of course much unrest at this time in the 1960’s too and a lot of social change, but the season of change we are in today is much more extreme and is having severe consequences for the future of the world. Our whole world has gone topsy-turvy, with confusion and disorder everywhere. The lies that we have been told over the past decades have brought this about and unfortunately most people today do not know how to go back to the simpler times without all this confusion. Most young people today do not even know the past and what made our countries great. They are caught up in Satan’s Kingdom and do not know anything about the Kingdom of God. These two kingdoms are very different and as most people today are following Satan’s kingdom the world has become a place we Christians do not recognize. Satan is after our souls and tries to tempt us with his kingdom by promising power, pleasure and self gratification (all about me) attitude with no mention of the long-term consequences. This attitude leads to the downfall of our society and abandons all the things the Christian life offers for eternal happiness and life with our Lord.
This current season of change in which we are living is leading to the fall of Babylon and all its pitfalls. Another song from the 1963-1965 period that talks about social unrest and confusion is called “Eve of Destruction”, sung by Barry McGuire. Many people have mentioned that this song sounds more like today than back then. When you think about it, the years 1963-1965 are sixty years from today. In the Bible sixty represent pride and we know what follows pride! Prov. 8:12-13 says, “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.” God hates pride and this season of 60 years of pride and arrogancy is coming to an end. Remember what happened to King Nebuchadnezzar because of his pride, “The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.” (Dan.4:30-31).
The truth is starting to be revealed, and we must wait on the Lord for this next season to start. At the time of writing this article, at the very end of October, many changes are about to happen, but we must always remember that God is in the midst of it all and we must not fear. Psa. 46:7 says, “The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.”
What a blessing it is to worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Psalm 136:1 says, “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Amen.
