Goliath Will Fall
I believe David, Goliath, and the stones were symbolic of a greater story to come. Goliath is symbolic of a huge problem each individual Christian faces, but I believe the greater interpretation of Goliath is a massive problem that affects the whole world. David, of course, is symbolic of the greater king, Jesus Christ, who is of the house of David. David was a shepherd, just as Jesus is the shepherd of our souls.
The giant Goliath was ominous, but the young shepherd fought for the Lord God and believed he would triumph. The Goliath we face is represented by the statue Nebuchadnezzar saw in Daniel chapter two. It stood for the heathen empires that followed the downfall of the Assyrian empire: Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome, followed by European powers that were a continuation of Rome, strong but not united. We call this collection of empires Babylon, named after the first empire of the line. It continues today but has spread beyond Europe to the whole world. It is now in every major city of the western world and beyond. There was a warning against the king of Babylon in the Bible. “Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.” Isaiah 14:21. Goliath (Babylon) is that world power that seeks to rule the world without God. It also tries to destroy the Christian Gospel and enslave the descendants of Jacob (Israel) – the Anglo-Saxon and kindred people. It blends all religions together and rejects the deity of Jesus Christ. Its ruler is Satan, and it holds power with lies. It is destined to fall.
The person that will bring down Babylon is Jesus the Christ. He is the Rock of Israel (2 Samuel 23:3). Nebuchadnezzar saw the statue (Babylon) smashed by the stone cut out without hands. That means God brought forth the stone. The stone became the fifth world empire and filled the whole earth. When David fought Goliath, he used five stones. When Goliath fell David delivered the Israelites. Jesus Christ will deliver us when Babylon falls. I believe our deliverance is coming soon.
Goliath tormented the Israelites for forty days. Applying the prophetic interpretation of a day for a year (Ezekiel 4:6), perhaps we are to be tormented for forty years by Babylon. Of course, the Philistines tormented Israel long before Goliath came on the scene. But perhaps there is a sign in world events that gives indication of a forty-year countdown until Jesus Christ (the Rock of Israel), brings down the giant Babylon.
Goliath was a Philistine. The Philistines always lived in the region of Gaza. Gaza city was one of the five cities of the Philistines. (Joshua 13:3). Israel never destroyed the Philistines. Even in the time of David and Solomon they were still there in the region of Gaza. God left them there to prove Israel (Judges 3:4). I believe the Philistines are still in the region of Gaza. Something happened about forty years ago that shaped events to come. In 1987 the first Intifada (uprising) of the Palestinian people occurred, and Hamas was born. The Hamas organization was determined to bring about an independent Palestinian state. There was turmoil in the Middle East that year and a military conflict broke out between the U.S.A. and Iran. Iran attacked a U.S. military base, and the U.S. attacked Iranian oil facilities. This may have led to the greater event of 1987. October 19, 1987, was Black Monday when global stock markets crashed and the world lost nearly half of its paper wealth. The Dow Jones Industrial Index fell 508 points wiping out 500 billion dollars in one day. This was the biggest one-day loss to that date in history. Fortunately, the world economy recovered over the next half year, but perhaps it is a warning of what could happen if a big Middle East war were to occur. Perhaps it was a forty-year warning to the world.
When the present-day Goliath (Babylon) falls the merchants of the world will weep and wail (Revelation 18:15). I believe it will be a war coupled with a financial crash bigger than anything we have seen. That will show the futility of trying to build a global economic system without Jesus Christ.
The Babylonian system has never worked for the majority of people. A few years ago, the Oxfam organization calculated the incomes of the poorest half of humanity. The combined income of those four billion people did not equal the combined assets of the eight richest men in the world. The Babylonian system keeps the majority in economic bondage while a few people fly around in private business jets. I believe God is preparing to bring down the whole system and replace it with an economic system of his choosing headed by his Son, Jesus Christ. Goliath will fall, and the new King of Israel will spread his empire over the whole world.
There is another theory about what caused the Black Monday crash of 1987. Investors were starting to use computers to decide on their investments. When the Middle East turmoil occurred, computers may have collectively advised a selloff of stocks and bonds. Compare that to today, when thousands of corporations are using A.I. (artificial intelligence) to make their financial decisions for them. Even small-time investors are turning to A.I. It is the A.I. revolution. Decisions of all kinds will be made by A.I., not by people. I have read of churches turning to A.I. for their decisions, to increase membership. Could A.I. in the investment industry cause the biggest crash of the economy in history? This is a question to ponder but know that God has everything under control and he will take care of his children. Call on Jesus Christ in the time of trouble.
