Follow Moses
The title of this article may surprise some people. Should we follow Moses or Jesus Christ?
When the apostles saw Jesus with Moses and Elijah on the mountain (Luke chapter 9), the voice from heaven told them to listen to Jesus, not Moses or Elijah. However, what most people miss when thinking about this question is the fact that it was Jesus in his pre-human existence that gave Moses the Laws. It was Jesus that spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai after the exodus from Egypt. Jesus wrote the Ten Commandments on the tablets of stone. He said, “Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58. In fact, He created Adam and Eve long before either Abraham or Moses was born.
The Apostle John had a vision that taught him a truth of the kingdom age. “And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.” Revelation 15:2-3. I believe many “New Testament” Christians are singing the song of the Lamb, but not the song of Moses. Their proclamation is “Grace, not Law!” Therefore, they have rejected God’s Laws. The Apostle John saw another vision, showing the punishment of the wicked, and the commendation of the righteous. “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Revelation 14:11-12. If you want to be free of the beast system, obey the commandments and believe in Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for you.
I believe the Babylonian system and the beast system are connected. In the seventeenth chapter of Revelation the woman Babylon is shown to be riding the beast. They are both creatures of the earth. They have no connection with heaven. In contrast, the woman Israel in Revelation chapter twelve is shown to have wings to fly in the sky. She has a connection to heaven and is crowned with twelve stars. I believe many of the rulers of the beast system are descended from Esau. He was a man of the earth with no interest in God or connections to heaven. He married heathen women who did not worship God. He also had plans to kill his brother Jacob. In contrast, Jacob was a man who worshipped God and saw angels coming and going from heaven (Genesis chapter 28). Also, he married Hebrew women who worshiped God. He had connections to heaven.
If we claim to be in the Jacob camp, rather than the Esau camp, then we should be obeying the Ten Commandments written by the person known as the Word of God. This was Jesus Christ in his pre-human existence. Those Commandments are listed in Exodus chapter twenty and Deuteronomy chapter five, repeated to show just how important they are. We should follow Moses and obey those Commandments to resist the Babylonian beast system.
People who yield to the beast system are often caught up in sexual sins. They have sexual relationships with people they are not married to. Pornography is also part of the beast system. It involves lusting after someone the person is not married to. Jesus condemned this practice (Matthew 5:28). It is breaking the seventh commandment.
People who yield to the beast system are often caught up in the pursuit of wealth. “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:10. People who love money are breaking the tenth Commandment.
Also, people who yield to the beast system often have contempt for certain groups and individuals and believe they are superior to them. Jesus condemned their anger and judgement of others (Matthew 5:22). Their sin of anger is breaking the sixth Commandment.
In contrast, we are called to obey all Ten Commandments and to be a people set apart from the world. Follow Moses and resist the beast system!
