Pride Goes Before Destruction
“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.” (Prov. 16:17-19)
Why is it that the leaders we have in place in our countries today seem to be so full of arrogance and pride? It is as if when they get into a position to govern our lands that they all of a sudden think they have a right to rule without consideration of the people or the country. They decide they are going to do what is best for them instead! Who gave them the right to do that? They weren’t elected by the people to do what was right for them, they are supposed to do what is right for the people and the country but their own pride takes over and they become arrogant and think they know what is best for everyone including best for themselves. God hates this pride and through all that they do it is leading to their own destruction.
Many leaders in the Bible fell because of pride. They were good men but their power and success led them to forget that God was the reason for this power and success and they became prideful and arrogant. This caused their fall. Today most of our leaders do not even seem to have faith in God so this makes them even more prideful as they truly believe they deserve the power and success because of themselves. They think that they have ruling authority on their own and their own moral authority, rather than God’s, to do what they want. This is dangerous as their decisions can cause much harm. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isa. 5:20-21). Through this thinking God’s word has been weakened and denied and the truth was lost therefore darkness came over the land as the leaders brought the people down. The churches lost their foundation and the people suffered. “Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the Lord.” (Jer. 23:1)
“If man is his own priest, he can absolve himself of responsibility for wrongdoing. They have an attitude like that of the Babylonians. Isaiah 47:10: “For you have trusted in your wickedness; you have said, ‘No one sees me’; your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you; and you have said in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me.’” The “little I am” has put himself in place of the Great I Am and therefore thinks he is accountable to nobody but himself! But the terrifying reality for unsaved mankind is that there is a righteous Judge who will exercise judgement against all wickedness.” The Downfall Of World Leaders: Pride Is Not A Sin That God Takes Lightly – Harbinger’s Daily
I think this is where we are today. Our leaders are falling into destruction and will face God’s wrath very soon it seems but we must not let them bring us down with them. We must examine ourselves for any pride we have in us that makes us think we are above God’s laws and His truth. His truth sets us free and draws us close to Him. There is a battle for our souls right now and Satan is trying to put leaders in to rule by his way not by God’s way. We must pray for Godly rulers and that the fall of this Babylonian system we are in will end soon. Then these evil prideful people will be judged accordingly. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1John 2:15-17).
