Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed from this life on September 8, 2022. From the time she was a girl, her life was a life of duty and devotion to the people of Britain and the Commonwealth. She was the longest reigning monarch in British history, faithfully serving the British people as their Sovereign for seventy years, seven months and two days. I believe this to be a testament, not only to her selfless dedication to the British people, but also to the longsuffering and blessing of Almighty God, who is great in grace and is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Here’s some observations and thoughts . . .
We read in the Bible that when our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ returns in power and great glory, He will be given the Throne of His father David. “He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” Luke 1:32-33
The Throne of England can be traced through the millennia back to Scotland, Ireland, and all the way back through the Kings of ancient Israel and Judah to the Throne of King David. God said, concerning David, “Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations…” and, “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.” Psalms 89:4, 34-37
The Saxon kings traced themselves back to Odin, who was traced back to his descent from David, as may be seen in a very ancient manuscript in Herald’s College, London, as well as in Sharon Turner’s exhaustive work History of the Anglo-Saxons.
A genealogical chart compiled by A. B. Grimaldi was published in the mid nineteenth century which showed the descent of Her Majesty Queen Victoria from King David, and it was known at the time that Her Majesty had wished to lay her crown at his feet, as the rightful Heir.
In his good work, The Journey and It’s End, A. J. Pollock records, on page 72 . . . One of the chaplains of her late Majesty, Queen Victoria, had been preaching on the Second Coming of the Lord, and afterward, in conversation with the preacher, the Queen exclaimed: “Oh! how I wish that the Lord would come in my lifetime!” “Why,” asked the chaplain, “does your Majesty feel this very earnest desire?” The Queen replied with quivering lips, and her whole countenance lighted up by deep emotion — “I should so love to lay my crown at His feet.”
Victoria knew Christ to be the rightful heir of the Throne. Subsequent generations of Sovereigns have also acknowledged our Lord Jesus Christ as the rightful Heir to the Throne. It is known that King George V knew well their descent from David. Even Queen Elizabeth, when she was asked during an interview about twenty years ago who should take the Throne after her, voiced a similar sentiment to that of her great great grandmother Victoria when she said something to this effect . . . “It should be my earnest desire to return my crown, my Throne, to the only rightful King — King Jesus.”
We think it is interesting that as the Queen was dying, a double rainbow appeared in the sky above
Buckingham Palace, the official home of the Monarchy and symbol of Her Majesty’s authority and position.
It was a remarkable occurrence, and the people who had gathered at the Palace to show their love and support upon the news that Her Majesty was not feeling well were delighted. Shortly after, she passed. Then, not long after Her Majesty passed, as the Union Jack was lowered to half mast over Windsor Castle, an incredible rainbow appeared there. This, too, was remarkable, as it did not stay for long. It appeared for a few minutes, “and then just like that it was gone.”
In addition to this, according to the Daily Mail Online (September 25, 2022), no less five rainbows also appeared over Balmoral. Five is, of course, the number of Grace. Additional rainbows also appeared over Westminster Abbey and Westminster Hall in the days between the Queen’s passing and her burial. So several rainbows appeared during this time.
There also appeared a remarkable ray of sunshine that shone down upon the Queen’s coffin as it was in procession through Edinburgh, which is where the Coronation Stone, also called Jacob’s Pillow Stone, the Stone of Destiny, and the Throne of the Lord (as in 1 Chronicles 29:23), is currently situated. In pondering these things, we believe this to be very interesting, if not significant.
Regardless of the meaning that has been attached to the rainbow in recent years, the Bible makes it clear that the rainbow belongs to God, and is a symbol of His awesome divine authority. “And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” Revelation 4:3
We read also in Revelation 10:1 of a mighty angel, either Christ or His representative, who had a rainbow upon his head. “And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire.” Revelation 10:1
Not only does the rainbow signify the presence and authority of Almighty God, it is also the sign of the Covenant that God made with Noah after the great flood. Genesis 9:12-17. So what could it all mean?
Could it be that the rainbows that were seen over the houses of Queen Elizabeth and Westminster were given to us to remind us of the promise that God gave to David and his descendants? Could He be drawing our attention to His faithfulness to His Word? Could it be, could it possibly be, that our Lord Jesus Christ will soon come and take the Throne of His father David, as promised?
Look up, people of God. Your redemption draweth nigh.
