“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5
I once heard a story about a famous tight-wire artist who was about to walk a tight wire across a portion of Niagara Falls. A crowd had gathered to watch, so before he embarked on his stunt, he asked the crowd if they believed that he could do it. They all cheered in support. He then asked which one of them would like to ride across the raging waters on his shoulders! Oddly enough, there were no volunteers!
You see, even though they might truly have believed that he could get safely across, not a one of them had enough faith in him to actually get on his shoulders and ride across.
A lot of Christians are like that. In their heart, they believe that the Lord Jesus Christ can do anything — and they have no trouble at all trusting Him to receive them into glory when they breathe their last breath. Yet, when it comes to trusting Him with their daily lives, they are hesitant, and become anxious.
But true faith is hanging your life on God’s Word, and trusting Him with your life — no matter what the circumstance. He either can be trusted, or He can’t, and if you’ll look back on your life, you’ll see that He can indeed be trusted. You just need to climb aboard, relax, and TRUST that together, you and Jesus will get safely to the other side.
I am reminded of the time when Jesus and His disciples were all in a boat when a terrible tempest came and tossed them about. The disciples were afraid for their lives and the stress factor was off the charts. They turned in panic to Jesus, who was at perfect peace, asleep on a pillow in the back of the boat. He got up and calmed the storm in an instant and asked them why they didn’t have any faith. (Matthew 4:35-41)
On a similar occasion, He came to His disciples walking on the tempestuous water, and when He got into the boat with them, not only did the wind cease, they were instantly at their destination! (John 6:15-21)
As I write this, I must confess that I am writing this article chiefly for myself. My family and I are preparing to move 1600 miles away, clear across the country, to start a church in an unfamiliar place.
If you have ever moved — especially if you have ever moved that far away after having lived in the same house for over 25 years — you know how stressful it can be. This move SEEMS like a big thing to us right now, a terrible tempest, but I am reminding myself that if we will just trust Him and, as the British say, keep calm and carry on, the Lord Jesus Christ will take care of everything. He will carry us safely through this just as He has carried us through every other “big” thing all these years.
Today, I challenge you to put your trust in Christ. Don’t fret over the problems or difficulties of the day. Just get on Christ’s shoulders, and He will carry you safely across the troubled waters and land you at your destination.
Trust Him. Rest in Him. He takes excellent care of those who TRUST HIM
Is God’s Hand Behind It?
Editor’s comments: As I read Rev. Kemble’s comment, “My family and I are preparing to move 1600 miles away, clear across the country, to start a church in an unfamiliar place”, I couldn’t help but think of God’s command to Abram, “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee”. Well, Rev. Kemble is in Michigan now and starting from scratch, he will preach the Gospels of the Kingdom and personal salvation, along with news of the Israel Truth. God bless your task, Reverend.
