Recently, a monument with God’s Ten Commandments was erected on the grounds of the State Capitol in Little Rock, Arkansas. It was erected at great expense, despite much opposition from the ungodly. It was a happy time for the faithful in Christ Jesus, and one that had been long awaited.

The very next morning, less than 24 hours later, a lone vandal yelled Freedom!” as he deliberately drove his car into that same monument, knocking it off of its foundation and smashing it to pieces. Not only that, he was so proud of himself that he took a video of the whole thing and posted it on Facebook.

This lunatic, described on the arrest report as “unemployed/disabled,” is the same man who destroyed a similar Ten Commandments monument in Oklahoma a couple of years ago, indicating that this was not just an isolated crime, but that this man is on some sort of campaign.

This should cause a holy anger to rise up in the heart of every Christian. The Word of our God has been held in contempt, and the transgressor was jubilant as he committed the offense!

But one just has to wonder what this hater of God’s Law meant when he yelled “Freedom!” This is indeed a curiosity to me. Just how does destroying God’s Law – if one could actually do such a thing — bring freedom? Perhaps he would feel “free” if someone were to murder someone that he loves dearly. Perhaps he would feel “free” if someone were to break into his home and steal his most prized treasures. Perhaps it would make him feel “free” if someone were to rape his wife, mother, sister or daughter. Perhaps he would feel “free” if someone were to tell a bunch of unfounded and horrible lies about him in a court of law.

The truth is, true freedom can only be realized and enjoyed through the keeping of God’s Law!

God gave us His Law not to punish us and make us feel bound up in chains, but rather, He gave us His Law “. . . for our good always, that He might preserve us alive.” Deuteronomy 6:24

We do not understand ministers who teach that the Law of God has been done away with and that we need not pay any attention to it. Though they might never do what the hater of God’s Word did in Little Rock, those ministers are just as guilty – for through their influence over thoughtless sheep, they are attempting to destroy God’s Law.

The ultimate Champion of freedom and great Liberator of the souls of men – our Lord Jesus Christ – said: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:15-19

Dear reader, if you should make it to the Kingdom of Heaven, how will you be regarded there? Will you be called great, or will you be called the least?
