Bob Vermaat

Bob Vermaat’s column "A Christian Israelite View" has drawn a wide following and is often reprinted in other publications.  A retired carpenter, he and his wife came to the message after reading an article in a newspaper, an article that instantly led them to the truth. That was thirty years ago and it began his mainly one on one ministry of spreading news of the Gospel of the Kingdom and the Israel Truth. He attributes his growing knowledge partly through brief associations with such scholarly pastors such as Karl Schott, Sheldon Emry, Robert Record, George Southwick and Bob Bell.

We are indeed pleased that approximately two years ago Bob agreed to become president of this Association and he has proved his teaching abilities through meetings that he chairs during Sunday services. He is also an accomplished  Gospel singer and inspires those of us who are fortunate to listen. A modest man, he understands that each time he sits down to study Scripture, a new understanding comes to life and he is always astounded by what he learns.

“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that.” (Gen. 6:4)

When we read our Bible we find that the account of giants is recorded nineteen times, from Genesis and Numbers, in Deuteronomy and Joshua and also in 2Samuel and 1Chronicles.

If we would ask the average Christian when the giants existed, the general answer we get is that giants were found mainly before the flood of Noah’s day. But the time period that we find from Gen. 6 until the time of the middle or latter part of David’s reign covers a span of approximately three thousand years. So, in other words, giants were around for quite some time.

“And I will betroth thee unto me forever.” (Hos. 2:19).

Yes! She was a beautiful woman and in the eyes of her beloved, she was a most desirable creature. She had just recently been rescued from the most unfavourable environs of bondage and slavery and was not as of yet used to the ways and manners of her soon to be husband, but he loved her with an unwavering love and hoped that with some loving corrections and instructions she would soon become a faithful and loving wife. And so a wedding took place (Ex. 19:3-8) and at that wedding feast the husband (Jer. 31:32) gave the new bride a set of guidelines and instructions as regarding her conduct and behaviour, to which she readily agreed. (Ex. 19:8). But it soon became apparent that she, although she tried at times, was not able to remain faithful to her husband and her vows. Whether this was because of the fact that she had been in bondage for a long time in an idolatrous society, is not immediately apparent, but she did seem addicted to and have a propensity for idolatry and adultery, although the husband reprimanded and chastised her for her follies, after which she would be faithful to him for a short while. Things became gradually worse until at long last the patience of the husband wore out to the point that the only alternative left to him was to divorce his adulterous wife, which he did, although reluctantly, for through all this he still loved her. Even though she was not aware of this the husband vowed to keep an eye on her and someday in the future he would again woo her and win her devotion and again be married to her.

“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb. 10:31)

2011-10-vermaatGlobal warming or climate change is an expression that is bandied around a lot now-a- days. Every time we get some inclement or unusual weather that is the first thing one hears these days, and then they go on to say that we have to reduce our carbon footprint and lower the greenhouse gasses lest we destroy the environment and the Earth. Now I am not saying that we could not do a better job of husbandry on this planet, according to God’s command to take dominion, but none of the so-called experts have ever taken God, the Creator of this Earth, into consideration, for He claims the world as His own. “For the world is mine, and the fullness thereof.” (Psa. 50:12). “Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to the LORD’S thy God, the earth also, with all that therein is.” (Deut. 10:14). So, if God owns both Heaven and Earth, don’t you think that He is going to make sure that they will continue to function according to His plan? There is nothing that man can do to change God’s design.

It is my personal experience from attending several recent Bible studies that there is much confusion and misconception about what the Bible terms “Tribulation”. The general conception in most of the mainstream denominational and evangelical churches, and also among some of our Israel Truth believers, is that this “Tribulation” is some definite time period at the end of this Church Age, lasting some seven years in total but after the first three and a half years the Church will be raptured, in order to escape the final terrible tribulation that will take place at the culmination of this age.

Nothing could be further from the truth!
