God's Thanksgiving Day Gifts
by Brooks Alden

Did you hear what I heard last Sunday
While we sat all alone on the beach
As the sound of the waves hit the shoreline
To the shrill of the gulls' piercing screech
The bells from fish boats in the harbour
Tolled songs from gentle breezes above
And leaves from the trees rustled softly
While the swallows sang sweet songs of love

Did you see what I saw on that Sunday
While we gazed at the glorious blue sky
How the wondrous sun cast it's dazzling rays
Altering the hue of the clouds passing by
And did you feel what I felt on that Sunday
Like the warmth of the sun and the sand
Or the morning mist as it touched my brow
And the pebbles I held in my hand

Did you cherish nature's bounty that Sunday
Taste the cherries we picked from the tree
And the tea we brewed from the mint leaves
Or those crabs we snatched from the sea
Did you inhale nature's fragrances that Sunday
Like the smell of our delightful repast
Or the purity of air right after the rain
And the flowers growing wild long the path

Did you think as I thought on that Sunday
What a truly divine life we all share
As God in his most infinite wisdom
Bestowed gifts too immense too compare
And how fortunate are we for the moments
When we can sit in the sun on the beach
And think about God’s bounty in it's fullest
And enjoy all those gifts in our reach
