Our Lord, in warning his disciples not to be deceived by false Christs or false prophets, stated that His Second Coming would be unmistakable; “For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall the coming of the Son of Man be.”
These words certainly indicate the suddenness and the brilliance of His Coming; and they may possibly convey some idea of the sign which will appear in the heavens.
At the same time it should be noted the Jesus spoke of His return, not as the Son of God, but as the Son of Man; and we cannot help supposing that He wished to impress upon his disciples that He would come back to this world in the visible, tangible body which He possessed after His resurrection, and in which He ascended into Heaven.
Just as the Trumpet of God and the Voice of the Lord reverberated over Sinai at the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth, so the Trumpet of God will ring out again, so the Shout of the Lord and the Voice of the Archangel will thunder once more, when the Kingdom of God is re-established upon the earth with God Himself as King. |
