Historical buildings and monument bearing Biblical verses has come in this photograph of the Armada Memorial on Plymouth Hoe.

No doubt you have all heard the story of the Armada, comprising some 130 ships, that was sighted off the coast of Cornwall on July 19th, 1588. When the news was brought to the captains of the English Fleet, who were playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe, they decided to stop and finish their game. They then set sail in their ships, which were much smaller and therefore more easily handled than the large Spanish galleons, and there followed a running fight which lasted nearly a week.

By this time the Spanish Fleet had reached Calais. The Spaniards had lost 4,000 men and three great ships. Nevertheless, as Drake said, the Fleet seemed still "wonderful great and strong." The Spanish commander then decided to retreat to Spain by way of Scotland and Ireland. Suddenly the wind rose to a great fury and drove the Spanish and English Fleets across the North Sea nearly to Holland. The Spanish Fleet then continued its journey northwards round Scotland. In this journey they lost heavily, and out of this great Armada only 50 ships returned to Spain.

To commemorate this occasion, the Armada Memorial was built with the inscription: "He blew with His winds, and they were scattered," thus acknowledging the protection Almighty God gives to His people and their homeland.
