Let's Face the Truth about Brotherhood
by Robert S. Thornton

During a week in February each year most churches, many fraternal organizations and not a few civic clubs place definite emphasis upon “Brotherhood Week.” It is noteworthy that this effort is sponsored by the National Council of Christians and Jews.

“Brotherhood” in the biological, sense implies a common physical source of life; a common father. It is obvious that all men can not possibly be brothers on this ground. For men to be physical brothers they must proceed from the same physical source. Only those who share the physical inheritance of a common beginning are brothers in the flesh.

“Brotherhood” in its broad meaning expresses a common purpose or mutual spiritual inheritance. The man who serves Jesus Christ can acknowledge only fellow believers as brothers in the Spirit. As the Bible says: “...if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.” Romans 8:9.

“Brotherhood” implies agreement. The Word of God asks, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3. To accept as a brother one who denies that Jesus is the Christ is tantamount to a denial of Jesus Christ. We are called in Abraham, we are redeemed in Christ. This “Brotherhood” is of God... let us take care that we do not endanger our inclusion in this Divinely ordained fraternity by supporting Satan’s counterfeit. There is no “Brotherhood” outside of Christ... except Satan’s. In this relation, it would be well for America to consider the words of Joshua: “Choose ye this day whom ye will serve.”
